Dead Space is an impressive third-person, over-the-shoulder shooting game. Its sharp 3D graphics and tense gameplay help to make it arguably the most terrifying iOS game ever.
What is Dead Space about?
This version of Dead Space is set in a scenario in between the first and second PC/console chapters of the game. You find yourself on a deserted craft with only the remains of the former crew for company. You quickly discover you're not alone though, as an army of hideous Necromorphs lurk in all corners of the ship, ready to pounce on you at any second.
Aside from the super scary monsters, atmospheric lighting and realistic and gruesome blood stains, Dead Space sounds great too. The developer recommends the use of headphones when playing. It makes the in-game speech, sound effects and cinematic soundtrack all the more powerful and sensory.
How does it play?
The gameplay in Dead Space is more challenging and thought-provoking than rail games like Rage and Infinity Blade. Aside from just shooting and slashing, there are some problem-solving elements to Dead Space, and you'll need to keep your wits about you at all times.
Dead Space's unique control system is designed to combat the age-old problem of iOS's lack of a control pad. You move backwards and forwards using your left hand, and spin using your right, with no on-screen joypad to have to worry about. It's a good enough concept in theory, but it's not always responsive and its choppiness sometimes can prove fatal.
Control issues aside, Dead Space is a horrific and utterly absorbing adventure game. Beware of playing it in the dark.
